March 6, 2017

It's been three months since we arrived in Chile, and the time has flown by. Many adjustments and unexpecteds, many new friends, a new language, and other changes. The little things in life continue to be the joys- sunset, things your kids do, people that you know. One of the best news that we've had here is that Noah has a preliminarily clear scan, as taken in Santiago, so our coming months here look bright.  Thank you, G-d!

It's hard to summarize life, but that's why Brinly is writing a book about it, and that's why we have pictures.

If you'd like to contact us by mail, please do so. It takes up to 6 weeks for letters to arrive from the US (less for packages) and up to 4 weeks for letters to arrive coming from Chile.  We've received one letter and one package here, some skateboards that were lost in travel, and the kids' teachers have received letters from us, so the test run is complete! If we gave you a different address, apologies. It should still be fine, as Pura Vida, Pichilemu, Chile is all that's really needed. However, the full, confirmed address is:

Deuteronomy 31:8
It is the LORD who goes before you.  He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you.
Do not fear or be dismayed.

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings from the Standridge Family! Many of you have been following our journey over the last two years, and are practically as interested in what’s coming next for us as we are. As we considered possibilities, an unexpected opportunity rose to the surface which at first seemed unlikely and later, a clear path. We fasted and prayed, asking for direction, and one circumstance after another led the way.

The Anderson family in Pichilemu, Chile, has invited us down several times to experience the community and the classes many find life-changing. They work with Youth With A Mission (YWAM), which has a local hub offering discipleship, counseling, and service classes and projects. Mitch and Juliette Anderson, Bay Area natives, have raised their own 5 kids in Chile and spent their time working in Pichilemu through building a community center and pool, offering after-school programs and camps for kids, bringing in groups of elderly for a time of relaxation, operating surf camps, and much more.

We’ve decided to take this window of time and venture out with faith. Noah’s health is better, but he needs a transition back into a “new normal.”  It was unclear how we could move into a life of promise and purpose.  We’ve always wanted to grow closer as a family and develop a life of giving to others. It’s been a challenge over the years, but the move to Chile provides a chance for all of us to live safely in another culture, grow, and practice clarity. It is not the predictable path we imagined but we have found that nothing in this life is as certain as it once seemed.

What will we be doing? Noah will be helping with a variety of community needs such as: setting up a medical office, CPR/First Aid program, establishing an aquaponics system, and community garden. He will also focus on spiritual, emotional, and holistic well-being through classes and community. Brinly will be alongside him as able, as well as homeschooling the kids and joining service projects.  The kids will stay busy with time outdoors, academics, arts, Spanish, and Hebrew. We hope for new friends and healthy routines, and look forward to the opportunity to focus on family relationships and faith. Wifi is going to be OFF and Standridge-time 3-D is going to be ON.

When do we leave? Departure is Dec 3, at the beginning of Chile’s summer!  We will return to FL and CA in June to keep our kids connected to their friends and family, with the plan to return to Chile in August. We warmly welcome you to visit us in Chile!

How can you take part? We believe that prayer is essential, and would not be where we are today if it were not for spiritual support.  We are praying for Noah’s continued healing, our healing as a family, provision for a home and community. And safe and smooth travels and transitions. We also wouldn’t be where we are today if it were not for the myriad outpouring of support that has surrounded us the past two years. We deeply value ongoing prayer, as well as  spiritual, social, and financial support.

Send back the enclosed response card to let us know how you’d like to receive a newsletter, and include a photo if you can! We cherish our relationships and are grateful to hold hands with you in life.

With Love and Keeping the Lights on for you,
Noah and Brinly Standridge with Micah, Levi, Ocoee, Sequoia, and Juniper
